"Jerry Shot Me"

"SAN ANTONIO, TX - San Antonio police arrested a 41-year-old man early Sunday morning, when he allegedly tried to kill himself and his 25-year-old wife in their North Side home.

"Jerry Contreras is being held in Bexar County Jail on one count of attempted murder; his bond is set at $50,000. He was originally booked by proxy at University Hospital, where both he and his wife, April Contreras, were taken to be treated for gunshot wounds. She remains hospitalized in stable condition, officials said.

"Officers were called to the couple's home in the 1200 block of Basse Road around 1:30 a.m., when a neighbor called police to report that a man had shot his wife in the head in an attempted murder-suicide. April Contreras was in the shower when she sustained a gunshot wound to the jaw, according to a San Antonio Police Department incident report, and her husband of several months was found slumped over, sitting in a pool of blood nearby.

"According to Bexar County records, the couple's marriage license was validated in February 2009. It was not immediately clear what led to the shooting.

"The report states that April Contreras was screaming, `Jerry shot me,` and `help him, he shot himself,` when officers arrived at the home. Police recovered a .22-caliber rifle believed to have been used in the shooting, and the couple was taken to University Hospital, where Jerry Contreras was booked by proxy, officials said.

"He was treated and released to the Bexar County Jail around 7:30 a.m."

  1. Some facts are true, yet some are not. April was released from jail and as for Jerry, he remains at University Hospital in critical condition..He can't speak and has limited mobility from being paralized on oneside of body. Doctors say if and when he is able to speak, not only will it be impaired but the injury to his brain will allow him only to remember more then likely up to the last six monthes. Let's not jump to conclusions on what really happened..Anyone knowing the history of the couple will understand there's more to the story....Prayers go out to all of Jerry's family and his children...And most of all that Jerry will be able to tell what happened since it's only April's words that are being heard...
